Brent Hatch Nielson is a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served as a General Authority Seventy since April 4, 2009. On October 4, 2020, he was sustained as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy. In the Saturday morning session of general conference on April 6, 2024, President Dallin H. Oaks announced that Elder Nielson will be released and receive emeritus status on August 1, 2024.

Nielson was born on December 8, 1954, in Burley, Idaho. As a young man, he served a full-time mission to Finland. He has served in many other callings, including bishop, Young Men president, high councilor, and stake president. He served as an Area Seventy in southern Idaho and a member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy. In that capacity, he helped plan the Twin Falls Idaho Temple.

Before his call as a general authority, he was a partner in Twin Falls, Idaho, law firm. He specialized in workers compensation, business, bankruptcy, and personal injury law. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Brigham Young University and his juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah.

Nielson and his wife, Marcia, are the parents of six children. He is a cousin to David B. Haight, who was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
