Cheryl C. Lant was born on January 30, 1944 in Provo, Utah. She was married to John Glen Lant Jr. in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 17, 1963. Lant and her husband, John, are parents of nine children.

Cheryl C. Lant was sustained as the 11th general president of the Primary organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in general conference on Saturday, 2 April 2005 and served until 2010. Lant studied early childhood development at Brigham Young University and has spent most of her adult life teaching children, both as the mother of nine and as an educator. She is co-founder and co-owner with her husband of Learning Dynamics Academic Preschool and the co-founder and developer of Frontline Phonics, a beginning reading program. Her service to the Church has been extensive, including service as a member of the Primary general board, stake and ward Primary president, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency, ward Young Women president, and Primary teacher.
