Dinah Jane Hansen: Mormon Singer

Dinah Jane Hansen is a singer and performer in the American girl group Fifth Harmony, which was formed with contestants from the X-Factor USA second season. The group placed third in the competition, but the resulting single and EP did well. The single, “Miss Movin’ On,” reached 76 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The group’s EP, Better Together, released in 2013 and reached number six on the U.S. Billboard 200 in the first week. Two singles (“BO$$” and “Sledgehammer”) also certified Gold and their studio album, Reflection, debuted as number five after its February 2015 release. The group began a Reflection tour on February 27 and concluded on March 27. A second leg of the tour is slated for July 15 through September 15, 2015. Fifth Harmony is considered the most successful group to come from the show.

Hansen auditioned successfully as a soloist for the show, but failed to progress individually and became part of the group formed by Simon Cowell. She was born on June 22, 1997, in Santa Ana, California. She is the oldest of six children born to Gordon and Malika Hansen and she is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is of Tongan heritage and grew up in a home with 23 other people.

Her mother remembers hearing her sing at age four. Hansen sang the National Anthem in public at age seven and has been singing at community events since then.
