Julianne Marie Hough was born on July 20, 1988, in Provo, Utah, and is one of five children. Julianne is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sometimes casually called the Mormon Church. She is a professional ballroom dancer featured on the television show, Dancing with the Stars. Julianne won the competition her first year on the show, dancing with and coaching Apolo Anton Ohno, the Olympic speed skater. She also won the following year, coaching and dancing with Helio Castroneves, race car driver. She's the youngest professional dancer ever to have appeared on the competition. She has won several international dancing titles.
Julianne comes from a family of dancers. Her brother, Derek Hough, is also a dancer and is featured on Dancing with the Stars, and her parents and grandparents were competitive dancers. Julianne began her formal training at Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem, Utah, which has also trained several finalists on So You Think You Can Dance. She began with Latin Ballroom and entered her first competition at age 9. She and Derek studied for years in London upon the divorce of their parents. In London, they lived with Latin Dance Champions Corky and Shirley Ballas. While there, they attended school at the Italia Contie Performing Arts School, where they studied virtually every form of dance. They also received instruction in singing and theater. When Julianne was twelve, she and Derek (then 15) joined with Mark Ballas to form a pop music trio. Julianne is now becoming known as a country music singer.
Julianne left London via Las Vegas, where she studied at a performing arts high school, to return to Utah. She graduated from Alta High School in Salt Lake and then left for Los Angeles to build her career in singing, acting, and dance. She found work immediately in L.A.
