Being set apart is the final step to acquiring a calling in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It refers to the ordinance of having an ordained church leader (who has authority over that Church unit) place his hands upon the head of the member to authorize him or her to serve in the new calling and to pronounce a blessing of guidance and direction for the calling. The blessing comes from God through the power of the Holy Ghost. Being set apart occurs after one has accepted an invitation to serve, and after the members of the congregation have sustained him or her in the calling by common consent.
