Mindy McKnight
Mindy McKnight is the host and creative mind behind the extremely popular YouTube Channel, Cute Girls Hairstyles. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mindy, the mother of five daughters and one son, took photos of the hairstyles she created for her daughters so she could remind herself how to recreate them and to allow her daughters to choose a style for the day. She also enjoyed the photos as a keepsake of her growing daughters. When other moms started asking her details about how she styled her daughters’ hair, she decided she would start a blog and put up pictures. In 2008 she blogged how-to instructions and photographs for several months. When her blog grew in popularity, her husband, Shaun, suggested they begin making videos of her fixing her daughters’ hair. Six months after posting their first YouTube video, she received an email from YouTube asking her to host a channel. Her husband researched the offer and they launched their channel, Cute Girls Hairstyles, which has 2.8 million subscribers as of November 2014, and over 400 million views. Shaun has made it his occupation to manage the business and technical side of the channel.
The McKnight family has five daughters, who willingly allow their mother to use them during her tutorials. The McKnights include a “Daddy ‘Do” section on their channel that shows Shaun styling the girls’ hair. They post a new hairstyle video every Sunday. The oldest daughters, twins Brooklyn and Bailey, have launched their own YouTube channel that includes family vlogs, crafting, fashion, and beauty. They have over 800,000 subscribers.
Mindy McKnight has appeared on the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Katie” Couric Show,” “Anderson Live,” and ABC “20/20.” The McKnights contribute to the Disney Style Channel. Mindy duplicated the Katniss braid from the “Hunger Games” movie in one of her videos, which lead to the creator of that braid (Linda Flowers) using Mindy’s Bow Braid on a character in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
The McKnights lived in Lehi, Utah, but now live in Allen, Texas. They were invited to participate in the December 2014 video created along with the effort to claim the Guinness Book of World Records’ title for largest live Nativity, which was achieved with over one thousand participants. Along with the live Nativity, The Piano Guys, David Archuleta, Peter Hollens, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed “Angels from the Realms of Glory.” The final video premiered on The Piano Guys’ YouTube channel and attracted over seven million views.
