Bruce Newbold: Mormon Actor
Bruce Newbold is an actor and author. He has had a long career on television programs such as Hill Street Blues, Touched by an Angel, Highway to Heaven, Major Dad, L.A. Law, Promised Land, Tour of Duty, Father Dowling Mysteries, General Hospital and Everwood. He appeared in the PBS film A More Perfect Union, and films The Executioner’s Song and The Poof Point.
He has also had a successful career appearing in films created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he is a member. He was in How Rare a Possession: The Book of Mormon, The Restoration of the Priesthood, The Lamb of God, The Testaments: Of One Fold and One Shepherd, and Believe on His Name. He starred in the T. C. Christensen production Only a Stonecutter. He also appeared in feature films The Saratov Approach, Christmas Oranges, 17 Miracles, and Bonneville.
Newbold has appeared on stage in various productions at Brigham Young University, such as King Lear, The Three Sisters, Tartuffe, and Twelve Angry Men, and at the Sundance Theatre in Utah: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Annie Get Your Gun, and Starting Here, Starting Now.
He toured throughout the United States and England with a one-man dramatization of the life of Christ, "In Him Was Life" and later, a second one-man dramatization called "Covenants & Crucibles: A Handcart Saga". In 1997 he accompanied the sesquicentennial Mormon Trail Wagon Train from Omaha, Nebraska, to Salt Lake City, and wrote and hosted the fourteen-part documentary Legacy West, which aired on some PBS stations as well as the Odyssey Cable Network. He later wrote a book (In Our Father’s Footsteps: Inspiring Stories from the Mormon Trek Re-enactment) about the experiences at the request of Bookcraft Publishing Company.
He has written a number of screenplays, including "Run the Great Wall," "The Baseball Box," "Summer Lambs," "A Softening of Clay," and "The Killing of Fatted Calves." He has also produced the book The Baseball Box Prophecy.
Newbold and his wife, Lisa, live in Utah. They are the parents of five children.
