Vernald W. Johns was a poet and author. He wrote the words to two hymns included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: “From Homes of Saints Glad Songs Arise” and “We Meet, Dear Lord.”

Johns was born on February 8, 1902, in Pleasant View, Utah. He attended school in Salem, Idaho, and Ogden, Utah. He attended Weber Academy and earned a degree from Utah State Agricultural College. He was editor of the Weber Academy yearbook and associate editor of the Utah State College yearbook.

While living in Garland, Utah, he was editor and publisher of the Garland Times and later was U.S. Postal Service postmaster for fifteen years.

Johns was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and married Estella Franke Beal in 1931. Together they served a mission to Colombia, South America. After her passing in 1985, he married Aldine Nelsen. She died in 1998. He died on March 3, 1999, in Logan, Utah.
