Shayne Martell Bowen is a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving since April 1, 2006. In the Saturday morning session of general conference on April 6, 2024, President Dallin H. Oaks announced that Elder Bowen will be released and receive emeritus status on August 1, 2024.

Bowen was born on August 29, 1954, in Rigby, Idaho. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English, Spanish minor, from Brigham Young University. He studied insurance and finance at The American College and became a Chartered Life Underwriter and subsequently a Chartered Financial Consultant. He owned and operated his own insurance agency, which had previously been owned by his father.

He served as a full-time missionary in the Chile Santiago Mission, president of the Spain Barcelona Mission (from 2000 to 2003), and an Area Seventy. He has been a stake president, high councilor, bishop, high priests group instructor, elders quorum president, and Varsity Scout leader.

Bowen and his wife, Lynette, are the parents of seven children, one of whom is deceased. He spoke about this child, Tyson, in his General Conference talk, “‘Because I Live, Ye Shall Live Also,’” in October 2012.
