A. Roger Merrill

A. Roger Merrill was general president of the Sunday School of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2004 to 2009. He was the first person to fill that position, since Russell M. Nelson had been sustained to that calling in 1971, who was not a General Authority . Merrill served in various other positions in the Church, including area seventy, stake president, high councilor, and bishop. He served as president of the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple from 2012 to 2015.

Merrill was born on May 2, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and grew up in Carmel, California. He is one of the founders of the Covey Leadership Center (now FranklinCovey) and has served as a senior executive, executive coach, speaker, and trainer for decades. He holds a degree in business management.

He is coauthor of First Things First (with Stephen R. Covey and his wife, Rebecca R. Merrill). He also coauthored Life Matters: Creating a Dynamic Balance of Work, Family, Time, and Money (with his wife, Rebecca), and authored Connections: Quadrant II Time Management. He was a contributing author to Principle-Centered Leadership and coauthored The Nature of Leadership and Talent Unleashed: 3 Leadership Conversations to Ignite the Unlimited Potential in People.

He and his wife, Rebecca, are the parents of seven children.
