Alfred M. Durham

Alfred M. Durham was a composer and arranger of choral music. He is known for his hymns “Carry On,” “Again, Our Dear Redeeming Lord,” “Sweet Is the Peace the Gospel Brings,” and “They, the Builders of the Nation,” all of which were included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He arranged “Pioneer Songs,” compiled by Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as mission president to Samoa from 1895 to 1897.

He was born on September 23, 1872, in Parowan, Utah, and died on October 22, 1957, in Salt Lake City. He married Margaret Anna Richards on February 24, 1893.
