Becky Lockhart Mormon Politician

Rebecca Dawn “Becky” Lockhart was a member of the Utah House of Representatives for sixteen years, representing the 64th district in Provo, Utah. She was also the first female Speaker of the House in Utah. Lockhart was past Chair of the Legislative District. She was also a member of the Republican State Central Committee.

Lockhart announced at the end of 2014 that she would not run again, fueling speculation that she would be running in the 2016 Gubernatorial Election. However, tragically, she began developing signs of an illness before Thanksgiving that put her into the hospital a few days after she left office—January 5. She died in her home on January 17, 2015, from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), an unrecoverable and extremely rare neurodegenerative brain disease that progresses rapidly. She was 46 years old.

She was born on November 20, 1968, in Reno, Nevada. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She married Stan Lockhart and they were the parents of three children. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
