Benjamin Ming Zhe Tai was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2019. His father, Elder Tai Kwok Yuen, is an emeritus General Authority.

Tai was born on May 20, 1972, in Hong Kong. His father’s work took the family around the world, including Southern California where he spent his teenage years. He served as a full-time missionary in the Australia Melbourne Mission. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Brigham Young University. He has worked in Japan and Hong Kong in investment banking and real estate development.

Tai is married to Naomi Toma, who is from Japan. Although his paternal grandfather was captured, imprisoned, and executed by Japanese forces invading Hong Kong during World War II, his family held no bitterness and welcomed Naomi into their family. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1995 and are the parents of six children.

Tai has served in the Church as an Area Seventy, district president, counselor in a district presidency, district executive secretary, branch president, and Sunday School teacher. He was serving as elders quorum president at BYU when he met his wife, who was serving as Relief Society president.
