Bruce A. Van Orden is an emeritus professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. Prior to his work at BYU, he taught in the Seminary and Institute program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He holds a PhD in American, Mormon, and modern European history at BYU. He is the author of “We’ll Sing and We’ll Shout”: The Life and Times of W. W. Phelps and Prisoner for Conscience’ Sake: The Life of George Reynolds.

He served on Church curriculum committees and on the Pioneer Sesquicentennial Committee Faith in Every Footstep.

He and his wife, Karen, served for seven years at the Utah State Prison. They are the parents of five children.
