Caralyn Buehner
Caralyn Dixie Morris Buehner is a children’s picture book author. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Buehner was born in 1963 in Southern Utah and grew up in Salt Lake City, the youngest child in a family of bookworms. By sixth grade she had written a chapter of a romance novel. She won state and national awards for her writing in her teenage years, but never had confidence to write. She attended the University of Utah and Utah State University. She and her husband, Mark Buehner, moved to New York City in 1985, where they lived for over four years.
When her husband started illustrating children’s books, he encouraged her to write. They have collaborated on several children’s picture books including The Escape of Marvin the Ape, A Job for Wittilda, It’s a Spoon, Not a Shovel, Fanny’s Dream, Dex, The Heart of a Hero (also published as Superdog, The Heart of a Hero), I Did It, I’m Sorry, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Queen of Style, Snowmen at Night, Snowmen at Christmas, Snowmen All Year, Snowmen at Work, and Snowmen at Play.
Some of her other picture book titles include Would I Ever Lie to You? and I Want to Say I Love You. Her books have been honored with two Utah Children’s Choice Awards, a CBC Children’s Choice Award, Parent’s Choice Award, an ALA Notable Book, and a Boston Glove-Horn Book Honor Award.
Mark and Caralyn are the parents of nine children and live in Salt Lake City, Utah.
