Charlotte Sheffield Maxfield was a model and actress and former Miss USA. After she won the title of Miss Utah USA in 1957, she went on to the Miss USA pageant and placed as first runner-up; however, weeks later the winner, Mary Leona Gage, was stripped of her title when it was discovered she was married and had two children as well as being too young to compete. Charlotte was unable to compete for the Miss Universe 1957 title because she ascended to the title of Miss USA after the preliminary competition was over. She did compete in the Miss World pageant, but did not place.

She traveled throughout the world representing the USA, and collected costumes that she later shared in her costume rental, Charlotte’s Attic. She also donated costumes to Utah Valley University and Orem’s SCERA Corporation drama programs.

Charlotte married Richard Maxfield and they were the parents of eight children. She went on to act in many plays, movies, and commercials. She sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for nine years. She also composed many songs. Charlotte spoke to many youth groups and Education Weeks.

She was born on September 1, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah, where she was homecoming queen. She was also The Days of ’47 queen. She died on April 15, 2016.
