Darran Scott: Mormon Director

Darran Scott is a film director, producer, screenwriter, and former actor. He was born Darren Scott Page in Melbourne, Australia. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was forty years old.

He appeared in some of Australia’s popular television series, such as Special Squad, Carson’s Law, and The Henderson Kids. He also appeared in the World War I miniseries Anzacs. He went on to study cinema at Melbourne University and the Australian Film Television and Radio School. He also started making short films, including Surfed Out and Nullabor Madness.

During the 1990s, he was a freelance news and current affairs cameraman and worked for all major networks in Australia.

He and a business partner founded Shearwater Entertainment in 2009. During a period of time when some film projects were stalled, he decided to work on projects that pleased Heavenly Father. The Playbook, which he had started to develop and write, continued to gain momentum. The film opened the 2013 LDS Film Festival in Utah and was released in theaters in Australia in July 2013 and onto DVD in November. It was released in North American theaters in 2015 and has also been released worldwide in countries such as South Africa, Poland, and Brazil, and in Scandinavia. One of his current projects is Spirit of the Game, a story about the basketball Mormon Yankees of the 50s and 60s.

He won an Australian Film Institute Award as part of the 'Reinventing The Reel' Festival for Another Ordinary Day (2001). His film A World of His Own (2003) was accepted into several international short film festivals. He won a 2009 Antenna Award for most outstanding sports program (The Surfers Life).

He and his wife, Jennifer Jones Scott, divide their time between the United States and Australia.
