David F. Evans
David Frewin Evans was sustained as a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and member of the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 2, 2005. He had been serving as president of the Salt Lake Emigration Stake at the time of his call. He was released and granted emeritus status during the 191st Semiannual General Conference (October 2021).
Evans was born on August 11, 1951, in Salt Lake City to David C. Evans and Joy F. Evans. He grew up in the Los Angeles area of California and served a full-time mission from 1970 to 1972 to Japan. He then completed both a bachelor’s degree in community health education from the University of Utah and a juris doctorate from Brigham Young University. He married Mary Dee Shepherd in 1973 and they became the parents of eight children.
Before his full-time Church service, Evans had been a partner and practicing attorney with a number of Utah law firms and was also an executive in an investment banking business. He has served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ, including Scoutmaster, bishop, and Young Men president. He also presided over the Japan Nagoya Mission from 1998 to 2001.
