Beck was born on April 12, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of ten, Beck moved to Brazil for three years, as his father, Wayne Beck, was called to be a mission president. Later, Beck served in the Brazil North Central (later the Brazil São Paulo North) Mission.
