Dennis E. Simmons served as a General Authority Seventy in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was sustained as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy in April 1996 and released in October 2005. He was serving as an Area Authority at the time of his call. He also served as bishop, stake president, temple sealer, and regional representative. He presided over the Washington DC North Mission from 1986 to 1989 and served as president of the Logan Utah Temple from 2005 to 2008.

Simmons was born on June 27, 1934, in Beaver Dam, Utah. He and his wife, Carolyn, are the parents of six children. After earning a music education degree at Utah State University, he spent two years as athletic officer at an air force base near Livermore, California. He then taught school for two years in Tremonton, Utah. He then moved his family to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked at the Nevada Test Site. In 1965 the family moved to Washington, DC, where Elder Simmons earned a law degree at George Washington University and worked as a legislative assistant. He later returned to Las Vegas to practice law.
