Douglas Whitaker Stott was a vocalist and Church Educational System administrator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he was a member.
Stott was born on September 2, 1925, in Millard County. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate degree in ancient scripture from BYU.
He became director of the Institute of Religion in Columbus, Ohio (from 1970 to 1984). He wrote curriculum for the Church Educational System and filled an assignment to direct the development of Seminaries and Institutes in the West Indies.
Stott taught voice at the University of Texas and was a vocal soloist. He wrote the lyrics to “Saints, Behold How Great Jehovah (#28) in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He died on February 23, 2013.
