Evan A. Schmutz was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2016.

He was born on June 6, 1954, in St. George, Utah. and earned his bachelor’s degree in English and his juris doctorate from Brigham Young University. He was the managing shareholder in the Lehi office of Durham Jones & Pinegar and served on the law firm’s board of directors at the time of his call to full-time Church service.

Schmutz has served in the Church as a member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy, bishop, stake high councilor, missionary training center branch president, and a missionary in the North Carolina Greensboro Mission. He presided over the Philippines Cebu Mission from 2011 to 2014.

He and his wife, Cindy, are the parents of five children.
