Families are the foundation of society and for the [[Church]].  The Proclamation on the Family says that "Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and [[wholesome recreational activities]]."
 
 
 
The father is to provide for the family and preside in love and righteousness.  The mother's primary responsibility is the raising and nuturing of children.
