George Stoddard Eccles was a prominent banker and financier. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Eccles was born April 9, 1900, to David Eccles and his wife Ellen Stoddard Eccles. He was one of nine children, which included brother Marriner S. Eccles. He grew up in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Columbia University School of Business.

Eccles played a key role in founding and guiding First Security Corporation from its inception in 1928. He was CEO for thirty-seven years. The company merged with Wells Fargo in 2000.

He was a civic leader and philanthropist. He and his wife established the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation in 1960 and contributed to educational, medical, cultural, and societal efforts throughout Utah, which continues today.

He married Dolores Doré in 1925. They lived in Ogden, Utah, until 1953 and then moved to Salt Lake City. They also had a home in Palm Desert, California.

He passed away on January 20, 1982.
