Gerald E. Melchin was a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was sustained as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in October 1988 and in April 1989 he was transferred to the newly formed Second Quorum of the Seventy and served until 1993. During his service, he was the Assistant Executive Director for the Family History Department and the Assistant Executive Director of the Temple Department, among other positions. Melchin also served in the Church as bishop, stake president, [[Regional Representative, and presided over the California Arcadia Mission. From 1993 to 1996 he served as president of the Toronto Ontario Temple and then was called to serve as the patriarch of the Calgary Alberta West Stake.

Melchin was born on May 14, 1921, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Raymond. He served as a full-time missionary in the East Canada Mission, where he met his future wife, Evelyn Myler Knowles, who was serving as mission secretary. After he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, they married in 1945 in the Logan Utah Temple. They were the parents of seven children. They lived in Calgary where he owned an auto dealership and an auto transport business with his brother.

He passed away at his home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on June 15, 2016.
