The Book of Mormon is occasionally refered to as the "Golden Bible." This name comes from the origin of the Book of Mormon text. Mormons believe that, just as many ancient records were kept on sheets of various metals, the Book of Mormon was recorded anciently on sheets of Gold. Ancient writers created these metal sheets, or plates, by hand and compiled books that would preserve a record of their history.

Mormons believe that the Book of Mormon, referred to by skeptics as the "Golden Bible," was recorded by ancient prophets who lived on the American continent. The ancient record is believed by Mormons to have been buried in a hill, sometime around 400 A.D. and then later revealed by an angel to a young boy, Joseph Smith, on September 21, 1823. Joseph subsequently translated this record through the power of God and it was published as the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
