Harry A. Dean

Harry A. Dean composed the hymns “God Bless Our Prophet Dear” (#24), “Lord, We Come before Thee Now” (#162), “Savior, Redeemer of My Soul” (#112), which were included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a music instructor at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah from 1934 to 1958. He also taught at Gila College in Thatcher, Arizona, and Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Brigham Young University.

He was born on September 17, 1892, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two missions to Samoa (1914 and 1955). He translated the Church’s hymns into the Samoan language.

Harry and his wife, Gladys, were the parents of seven children. He died in Provo, Utah, on June 11, 1987.
