An investigator is a term used by missionaries to refer to someone who is investigating The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In general, it's someone who is not a member of the Church who is meeting with the missionaries to learn about the teachings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The investigator reads the Book of Mormon and other Church materials, asks questions, prays, attends Church meetings, and meets with members of the Church with the intent to decide if he or she believes the message of the gospel and wants to be baptized.
