James M. Dunn

James Meyers Dunn was a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy from October 2002 until October 2009. During his service he was first counselor and then president of the South America West Area. After his release, he served as a sealer in the Bountiful Utah Temple.

Dunn was born on April 16, 1940, in Pocatello, Idaho. He grew up in Salt Lake City. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies from Brigham Young University and a law degree from the University of Utah. During his career he worked for the Salt Lake County Attorney’s office, the US Attorney’s office, and as a trial lawyer then founding partner of the firm Jardine, Linebaugh & Dunn. He had also served as a commissioned officer in the Utah National Guard.

He served in the Church as a full-time missionary in the Uruguayan Mission, bishop, high councilor, stake president, Area Seventy, and president of the Colombia Bogota Mission.

He and his wife, Sandra “Penny” Barker Dunn, had six daughters. He died on January 24, 2017.
