Jean A. Stevens was called to serve as the first counselor in the Primary general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 2010. She was released in April 2015 in order to serve with her husband as he presided over the England London Mission.
On April 6, 2013, she became the first woman to offer a prayer in a session of general conference, although women have spoken at general conference for decades. Sister Carol M. Stephens offered the second the following day. The pattern has continued since that historic conference. Women have always prayed at the general Relief Society meeting and the Young Women meeting that have been held general conference weekend.
