Joanne B. Doxey

Joanne Bushman Doxey served as the second counselor to Relief Society general president Barbara W. Winder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had been serving as a member of the Primary general board at the time of her call.

She was born on April 17, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Bliss L. and Eva Murdoch Bushman. At one time, she was the national vice-president of Lambda Delta Sigma, an organization for Latter-day Saint women university students. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah with a double major in child development and interior design. At the age of 61, she completed a master's degree in family science with an emphasis in religion from Brigham Young University.

She wrote poetry and is the composer and lyricist to “Seek the Lord Early” and co-composer and co-lyricist to “Where Love Is,” two well-known Church children’s hymns that appeared in the Childrens' Songbook.

She served as companion to her husband David Watson Doxey as he presided over the Spain Barcelona Mission. Following her service in the Relief Society general presidency, she served as assistant matron of the Salt Lake Temple, director of hosting for the Church Office Building and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and matron of the Madrid Spain Temple.

Joanne and her husband, David, are the parents of eight children.

She passed away on November 7, 2020, in Salt Lake City.
