Kelsey Nixon, Mormon TV personality

Kelsey Nixon calls herself a good Mormon girl from Utah, but she typifies the ambition and zest for life that many women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints manifest.

Kelsey created a cooking show while she was a student at Brigham Young University. Her recipes were fast, fun, and affordable. She graduated in 2007 with a degree in broadcast journalism, but her ambition was always to have a cooking show of her own on a major TV network. She earned a professional culinary arts degree from Le Cordon Bleu in Hollywood. She also went for training at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Springing from that experience and training, she interned and made guest appearances at Martha Stewart Living and on Food Network’s Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee. In 2008, she was a contestant on The Next Food Network Star, where she was voted ‘fan favorite,’ and went on to star in the Food2 web series Kelsey and Spike Cook, with Spike Mendelsohn.

She hosted her own show on the Cooking Channel called Kelsey’s Essentials, which ran for five seasons from 2010 to 2013. She also hosted Kelsey's Homemade for one season in 2015. She begins with cooking basics and adds her own fresh twists, meanwhile making suggestions on choosing and using kitchen equipment and cooking tools. Her passion is creating recipes for beginning cooks. She teaches culinary techniques that increase comfort in the kitchen. She is the author of Kitchen Confidence. She has appeared regularly on the Today Show and Rachael Ray. She has an exclusive product line with HSN featuring innovative kitchen tools and small appliances designed to help cook with greater ease, confidence, and style.

Because of her career demands, Kelsey moved to New York City with her husband Robby. She gave birth to sons Oliver in 2012 and Leo in 2015; Leo was born prematurely and tragically passed away. Daughter Nora was born in 2016 via surrogate. They now live in Portland, Oregon.
