Lewis Feild
Lewis Keith Field was a five-time world champion (three straight all-around titles and two-time bareback crowns) and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer. He was the first Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association roughstock contestant to earn $1 million in career earnings. With both roughstock and timed expertise, he won the distinguished Linderman Award three times (1981, 1988, and 1991).
He retired from the PRCA in 1991 and was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1992. He was also inducted into the Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Hall of Fame in 2012, the Utah State Sports Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Pendleton Round-Up Hall of Fame in 2015. After his retirement, he worked as a pick-up man for many rodeos and coached the Utah Valley University rodeo team.
Feild was born on October 28, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He began participating in rodeo as a young boy and went on to compete with the National High School Rodeo Association and graduated from South Summit High School. He attended Utah Valley University (then Utah Valley State College) on a full rodeo scholarship and qualified for the National Intercollegiate Finals for three years—in saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and team roping.
He and his wife, Veronica, had three children. Sons Shadrach and Kaycee Feild are active in rodeo. Kaycee is a four-time world champion bareback rider.
Field passed away on February 15, 2016, after a five-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
