Marden J. Clark

Marden J. Clark was an English professor at Brigham Young University. He also wrote Morgan Triumphs (1984) a mix of memoir, personal essay, and short story. Clark was born on July 13, 1916, in Morgan, Utah, where he enjoyed a farm-life childhood. Much of his book is filled with stories from his childhood. He was a devoted follower of the Association of Mormon Letters conferences and was the first person named as a lifetime member of the AML.

Clark worked for a time as a draftsman for Lockheed in Los Angeles during World War II. He earned his master’s degree from BYU in 1948 and his doctorate from the University of Washington. After his retirement from BYU, he and his wife, Bessie, taught English at the University of Qing Dao in China. They traveled to the Holy Land, India, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and South America.

Clark also write a newspaper column for the Provo Daily Herald called “Matter Unorganized.” He wrote about his garden, nature, family, people, and the world as a testament of God’s love.

He and his wife raised six children. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He died on May 15, 2003.
