Mathias Held was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31, 2018. At the time of his call, he had been serving as a member of the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy.

Held was born on June 5, 1960. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada and a degree in mechanical engineering degree in Bogota. He worked for Daimler-Benz in Germany, Guatemala, Brazil, and Colombia.

He and his wife, Irene, were childhood classmates at a German-language school in their hometown of Bogota, Colombia. They were living in Hanover, Germany, when Sister Held “received a powerful impression that their lives were about to change.”[1]. The missionaries soon met them and they studied the gospel and attended church for almost a year. They were baptized in 1988. They were sealed in the Frankfurt Germany Temple on June 13, 1989. They are the parents of three children.

Held has served as a counselor in a stake presidency, a counselor in a bishopric, and an Area Seventy in the South America Northwest Area.
