Mormon Senator Mike Crapo
Michael Dean Crapo (pronounced "Cray-poe") was born May 20, 1951 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He graduated from Brigham Young University Summa Cum Laude in 1973 with a B.A. in Political Science and received his Juris Doctorate Cum Laude from Harvard Law School in 1977. Mike and Susan, married in June 1974, have five children: Michelle, Brian, Stephanie, Lara and Paul.

Before being elected to the United States Senate in 1998, Mike served three terms as the 2nd District Representative for Idaho in the U.S. House of Representatives. His public service began well before this at home in Idaho where he served in the Idaho State Senate from 1984 to 1992, and spent his final four years there in the position of Senate President Pro Tempore. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Professionally, Mike was a partner in the law firm of Holden, Kidwell, Hahn & Crapo prior to his service in Congress. He is a member of the Idaho and California Bar Associations.

Mike is an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) in 2000.

Since the Senator's prostate cancer surgery seven years ago, he has encouraged the public to be vigilant about their health. As Mike says, “This includes regular check-ups and preventative care. I followed my own advice and had PSA tests and other recommended tests every three to six months since that time.”
