Primary Answers

Primary Answers refers to the actions or habits that can help an individual deal with life’s problems, find happiness, feel peace, maintain confidence in Heavenly Father’s watch care, and other blessings. The list of actions or habits vary but generally include praying, studying the scriptures, attending Church services, serving and loving others, holding Family Home Evening, and expressing gratitude.

Some leaders in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have called these actions the Primary Answers, with a double meaning of “Primary” (referring to the children’s organization) and “primary” (meaning of chief importance or principal). Sometimes they are also referred to as the Sunday School answers.

Some lists include the titles of Church hymns or Primary songs that teach gospel principles, such as “Believe in Christ,” “Choose the Right,” “When You’re Helping You’re Happy,” “Listen to the Prophet’s Voice,” “County Your Blessings,” “Search, Ponder, and Pray,” and “Kindness Begins with Me.” Very simply, yet powerfully, the Primary song “He Sent His Son” asks: “What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?” and then answers: “Have faith, have hope, life like His Son, help others on their way.”

American author Robert Fulghum penned All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten and a derivation that has sometimes been used in the Church of Jesus Christ is "All I Need to Know I Learned from Primary."
