Ray H. Wood
Raphael (Ray) Hunter Wood is a former General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve in the Second Quorum of the Seventy in April 1998 and served until October 2001. He has also served as bishop, bishop’s counselor, stake president’s counselor, stake president, and high councilor. He served as a missionary to England from 1950 to 1952.
Wood was born on July 11, 1931, in Salt Lake City. He earned a bachelor’s and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah then worked for a Salt Lake City accounting firm. In 1958 he entered the US Air Force and served three years as an officer in the judge advocate, stationed in Spokane, Washington, and Ogden, Utah. He returned to Salt Lake for two years to work for Peat Marwick Mitchell; was transferred to Denver, Colorado, for two years; and then relocated to San Jose, California, where he retired as partner of the tax department in 1982. Wood returned to Salt Lake City to become director of tax administration for the Church until retiring in 1997. He also served for fourteen years on the tax review commission for the state of Utah.
He and his wife, Ann, are the parents of six children.
