Reed P. Smoot, A.S.C., is an American cinematographer. His list of credits is long and includes many IMAX documentaries and theme park rides, including Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets (1984), Alamo: The Price of Freedom (1988), Yellowstone (1994), Zion Canyon: Treasure of the Gods (1996), Mysteries of Egypt (1998), Olympic Glory (1999), Galapagos: The Enchanted Voyage (1999), China: The Panda Adventure (2001), The Human Body (2001), Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees (2002), Mystery of the Nile (2005), Mystic India (2005), Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs (2007), Mysteries of the Great Lakes (2008), and Wild Ocean (2008).

He was the cinematographer for The Great American Cowboy, which won the 1973 Academy Award for best documentary feature. His credits include The Great Brain (1978), Take Down (1979), Windwalker (1981), Harry’s War (1981), The Long Hot Summer (1985), Don’t Tell Her It’s Me (The Boyfriend School 1990), Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Disney’s Lots of Luck (1985), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), and The Young Black Stallion (2003).

He was also the cinematographer for Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert (2008), Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience (2009), and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011).

Smoot is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the cinematographer for Church films such as The Lost Manuscript (1974), Cipher in the Snow (1974), The First Vision (1976), The Mailbox (1977), Uncle Ben (1978), The Last Leaf (1983), The Pump (1988), Legacy: A Mormon Journey (1990), and The Mountain of the Lord (1993).

Smoot holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Brigham Young University. He was the cinematographer for BYUtv’s Granite Flats series.
