Richard G. Oman

Richard G. Oman is an art historian and was the curator at the Museum of Church History and Art, owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he is a member. While at the museum, he began the International Art Competition, which has brought great artists out of obscurity and added to the Church’s collection. He has published articles about art and religious art, especially Latter-day Saint art. He is the author of Images of Faith: Art of the Latter-Day Saints with Robert O. Davis.

Oman was reared in Moses Lake, Washington. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a graduate degree from the University of Washington. He worked at the Seattle Art Museum during graduate school.
