Richard Neitzel Holzapfel (born September 17, 1955) is an LDS member and Professor at Brigham Young University teaching Doctrine and Covenants, New Testament, Honors 240 American Society and Government. BYU Religious Education Dept.

Biography
Richard Holzapfel was born in Black Foot Idaho, and moved regularly as a child, due to his fathers Naval Career. They moved to and from Southern California, Maine, and Hawaii. He graduated from Chula Vista High in 1973. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for two years in Italy and Switzerland. He attended BYU, Hebrew Union College, and the University of California, Irvine (B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.) emphasizing in Middle Eastern Studies, Jewish History, Ancient History, American History, and Nineteenth Century American Religious History. Richard met Jeni Broberg at Brigham Young University and they were married in 1978. A year later their first child, was born. He moved his young family to Irvine, California to pursue his doctorate at the University California Irvine, UCI where he simultaneously worked for the Church Educational System (CES). Richard came to BYU as an assistant professor in 1993, teaching in the Church History, Ancient Scripture, and History departments, including the Honors sections of the Doctrine and Covenants and New Testament.
