The plan to build a Mormon temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was made in the Saturday morning session of the 183rd Annual General Conference of the Church by Prophet Thomas S. Monson (April 2013).

Brazil is home to nearly two million Latter-day Saints. Brazil is home to six operating Mormon temples, with an additional temple announced for Fortaleza Brazil, bringing the total to eight with this announcement. The São Paulo Brazil temple, the first in Brazil, was completed in 1978.
