Rufus Kay Hardy served as one of the first Seven Presidents of Seventy, which was also designated as the First Council of the Seventy at that time. He was sustained on October 6, 1934, and set apart on February 7, 1935, after arriving home from his labors in the New Zealand mission. He served until his death on March 7, 1945.
He served in the New Zealand mission three times; the first as a missionary from 1897 to 1901. He presided over the mission from 1907 to 1909, and from 1933 to 1934. His wife accompanied him during his first service as president.
Hardy was born on May 28, 1878, in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. He worked for a life insurance agency for more than twenty years.
He and his wife, Adelaide, were the parents of one daughter.
