On April 1, 2018, Russell M. Nelson announced that a temple would be built in Russia. When the Russia Temple was announced at the 188th Annual General Conference, no city was named as part of the announcement as it had not yet been determined.

The Church had its first presence in Russia in the late 19th century and was officially recognized in May 1991. The first stake in Russia was organized in Moscow in June 2011 by then-Elder Russell M. Nelson. Russia is home to more than 23,000 Latter-day Saints. Currently only three cities in the country have organized stakes: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Saratov.

Location

The Russia Temple is currently in the planning stages. No location has been announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
