The São Paulo East Brazil Temple is the twelfth temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be built in Brazil. President Russell M. Nelson announced its construction on October 4, 2020.[1]

The first temple in São Paulo, Brazil was built in 1978. The São Paulo East Brazil Temple will be situated on the east side of the city. There are more than 30 stakes of the Church in São Paulo with many more in the surrounding region. Brazil is home to approximately 1.5 million Latter-day Saints, and it operates 35 missions—second only to the United States. In 1986, Brazil became the third country outside the United States to have 50 stakes. As of 2022, Brazil has 281 stakes.

The São Paulo East Brazil Temple will be the fifth temple built in the same city as another operating temple, the São Paulo Brazil Temple (1978), making São Paulo, Brazil, the fifth city in the world to have more than one temple, following South Jordan, Utah; Provo, Utah; Lima, Peru; and St. George, Utah.

The São Paulo East Brazil Temple will be the fourth temple built outside of the United States in the same metropolitan area as another operating temple, making Greater São Paulo the fourth metropolitan area outside of the United States with more than one temple, following the Lima metropolitan area in Peru, the Greater Manila Area in the Philippines, and the Guatemala City metropolitan area in Guatemala.[2]

Location

The São Paulo East Brazil Temple is currently in the planning stages. No location has been announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Additionally, the official name for this temple has not been announced.
