Sam K. Shimabukuro served as a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from July 13, 1991 to October 5, 1996. He was a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy and part of his assignment was to serve in the Asia North Area presidency. Prior to his service as a General Authority, he presided over the Japan Sendai Mission from 1981 to 1984, served as president of the Tokyo Japan Temple from 1985 to 1988 and was president of the Honolulu Hawaii West Stake from 1988 to 1991. As a young man he served as a missionary to Japan.

Shimabukuro was born on June 7, 1925, in Waipahu, Hawaii. He was baptized a member of the Church in February 1942. He married Amy Michiko Hirose in 1957 in the Laie Hawaii Temple. They were the parents of one daughter, Phyllis. She died at the age of 15 of lupus.

He served in the United States military for over two years. He then received a degree in public administration from the University of Hawaii and worked for many years in the Hawaii State Department of Labor.

He passed away in Honolulu on October 8, 2015.
