In the final session of the 193rd Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a temple in Savai’i Samoa. The Savai’i Samoa Temple will be the second house of the Lord built in Samoa. The Apia Samoa Temple was first dedicated in 1983. The temple was rebuilt after a fire in 2003 and rededicated in 2005. More than 85,000 Latter-day Saints live in Samoa. The Pago Pago American Samoa Temple is currently under construction in neighboring American Samoa. The Hon. Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Samoa, visited Salt Lake City and met with the First Presidency in late September 2023.

Location

The Savai’i Samoa Temple is currently in the planning stages. The Savai’i Samoa Temple will be built on a 5.5-acre site located at Lot 1098 to Lot 1105 in Fataloa, a subarea of Salelologa village. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 29,630 square feet.
