Sherem is a character from the Book of Mormon. Known as the first "antichrist" spoken of in the text, Sherem is known for preaching to the people of Nephi that there is no Christ. His skill and flattering words lead to many believing in his preaching until he comes upon the prophet Jacob. Sherem engages Jacob in a debate, only to be sorely confounded by him. Finally, Sherem asks Jacob for a sign proving that there is a Christ and God. Jacob pronounces the sign will be shown immediately, as Sherem is struck down on the spot. After many days of being nursed, Sherem requests an audience, where upon he confesses that there is a Christs and that he was deceived by the power of the devil. His final remarks are the worries over his salvation and leading so many people astray. He then dies or "gives up the ghost". [1]
