Steven L. Peck: Mormon Author

'Steven L. Peck is an evolutionary biologist, a Brigham Young University professor, and an acclaimed author.

His novel titles include Gilda Trilliim: Shepherdess of Rats, A Short Stay in Hell, The Scholar of Moab, The Rifts of Rime, and The Gift of the King’s Jeweler. He also authored a book of poetry, Incorrect Astronomy. He has published short stories in the anthologies Monsters & Mormons and Space Eldritch II as well as Bellowing Ark, Dialogue, Encounters Magazine, Glyphs III, Irreantum, Jabberwocky Magazine, Journal of Unlikely Entomology, Lissette’s Tales of the Imagination, Pedestal Magazine, Quantum Realities, Red Rock Review, and Silver Blade, to name a few.

His scientific research has been published in such publications as American Naturalist, American Entomologist, Biological Theory, Biology & Philosophy, Newsweek, Evolution, Trends in Ecology and Evolution, and Agriculture and Human Values.

Peck was born on July 25, 1957, and grew up in Moab, Utah. He holds a PhD from North Carolina State University in biomathematics and entomology. He earned his master’s degree in environmental biostatistics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s degree in statistics and computer science with a minor in zoology from Brigham Young University.

He and his wife, Lori, are the parents of five children. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
