Talk:Thomas S. Monson
It is interesting that Wikipedia, KSl the Deseret News and other organizations are saying if tradition holds President Monson will be names succesor. My understanding is that is how it is. Another question though should we add he is President of the Quorom of the twelve right now and leader of the church or fix the edit until after the first presidency is reorganized? I would think that would be better to do wait until first presidency is organized since Apostolic presidencies only last days and not years anymore. Though will be awkward to see him as first counselor on here since First Presidency is automatically dissolved.
I was hometeaching and ladys daughter called with news. Heard a hoax of Prophets death last summer. But real this time. All I can say is Caravan moves on. (=)southidaho(=)
- I would say, go ahead and make the change now. It's best to keep current. If our pages are fresh and up-to-date, we both look better to Google, and we appear like a more serious source of information to readers. I noted that on the Gordon B. Hinckley page, he was already listed as a "successor". Since the reorganization is not automatic (as you noted, it has taken years before) and is not yet official, I think that's a bit much, unless one clearly states that he succeeds as head of the church, but not in the same office... yet.
- I think that you are right that succession is by seniority always, but I don't know a doctrinal basis for that. It might just be one of those really strong traditions that exist. People say it's certain, but if there's no revelation on it, I don't see why that's must be so necessarily. (Maybe I just haven't paid enough attention to the D&C and church history.) It is, nonetheless, what I have been taught. --Seanmcox 22:37, 27 January 2008 (MST)
